Spoiler Free Review
The first book of October is done! Now, to be honest, I was a few chapters into this book from last month, so is this a whole read for October? No. But it’s still going on my October wrap-up because, HELLOOOO, I finished it in October.
This is a 5-star review from me. 1.5 (ish) on the spice scale. I really need to sit down and figure out the detail of how I rate books. It would make this whole book review so much easier and streamlined.
Last night I was reading while eating a sticky pumpkin cake from Trader Joe’s and today I’m writing this blog while eating another pumpkin trader joes treat.
About the book
Pheobe is a true crime junkie who is headed home to Florida to clean out her Dads house after his unexpected passing. A child of divorce living apart from her Dad and younger brother, Pheobe is thrust back into her younger years that don’t hold the fondest memories.
Pheobe has a dry sense of humor, is mildly awkward, and tends to speak before she thinks better of it. She is reunited with her younger brother, Connor, who couldn’t be more unlike his big sister, and she get’s to spend some time with him and his long-time girlfriend, Shani, while she spends in Florida.
Sam is the next-door neighbor who Pheobe meets when she arrives in Florida at an unGodly hour of the night, and she is immediately suspicious of this stranger who seems to appear out of nowhere, barefoot and offering to help her unload a desk.
Things that made me F E R A L
I love a dark, messy-haired MC and Alicia Thompson DELIVERED him to us in the perfect package which is Sam.
Dry humor and books that make me laugh out loud. This book did the dang thing because I was cackling over a handful of moments throughout.
A journey of forgiveness and self-development always gets me in my feels, and while this was not the main focus of the story by any means, I loved this aspect of the story.
Brother/Sister relationships make my heart swell. I have a little brother and I loved reading about Pheobe and Conner reconnecting and spending time together.
While this is not the spiciest book by any means, the spice we do get in this book is so, so, SO good.

This is a book I’ll be recommending for sure. We are starting out October strong with this one and I am so excited to see what the rest of the month holds.
